MS in Counselor Education

The Master of Science in Counselor Education degree is nationally accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP). It prepares individuals for professional counseling positions in schools, community mental health settings, and rehabilitation agencies and institutions. These programs emphasize the blending of research and theory with practical applied experience. They also emphasize and reflect the urban and multicultural nature of our community, as well as general trends within specified fields. All programs involve intensive field work with accompanying seminars and supervision.

Counselor Education Majors

Individuals interested in majoring in Counselor Education can select one of three majors.

  • The Master of Science in Counselor Education, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Major is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and meets all requirements as outlined by the Florida Department of Medical Quality Assurance for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
  • The Master of Science in Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Counseling Major, accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), prepares students to work in the field of rehabilitation counseling in the public and private sector and/or various community settings. It meets all requirements as outlined by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) for national rehabilitation counseling certification.
  • The Master of Science in Counselor Education, School Counseling Major is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and is approved by the State of Florida Department of Education, the Florida Board of Regents, and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
